Balak::: Sa Banang Gikabahong

Sa Banang Gikabahong

ni Jona Branzuela Bering

It was forbidden in her marriage to open up her husband's wounds and look at them unless he asked to.
—David Gutterson, Snow Falling on Cedars

yamat ra, nganong bulikaton man gyod
na nakong imong samad aron lang gyod
makakita ko sa hapit na nga gipang-od
nga unod tungod sakadugay, kahibaw ko
nga bisag unsaon pa na nakog bukiki,
di gyod nako makit-an ang ngan sa nagtimbas
niini, bisag hunaran pana nakog hagunoy

Balak:::Kalipay

kalipay

===============================
futile attempt nonetheless :)

Workshop:::Faigao Fellows Named

The FREEMAN copy editor Maria Eleanor Valeros and columnist Maddie Llacer were among the 15 writers who were chosen as fellows of the upcoming 25th Cornelio Faigao Annual Writers Workshop of Cebu to be held on October 17 to19 at the University of San Carlos Retreat House.

Of the 15 fellows, 13 are from Cebu City and two are from other cities in Region 7.

Aside from Valeros and Llacer, among the 13 fellows who are from Cebu City are Jona Bering, Bobby Cabangon, Charmaine Carreon, Pete Zaesar Galula, Jude Gitamondoc, Dennis Judilla, Rhodora Magan, Neile Genica Mijares, Tez Marie Tan, Lilia Tio, and Cindy Velasquez.

Joining them from out of town are Sonia Sygaco from Dumaguete City and Elmer Agustin from Tacloban City.

Panelists for this year’s workshop are award-winning writers Resil B. Mojares, Merlie Alunan, and Adonis Durado; and Erlinda Alburo, who will serve as workshop director.

An outreach program of the USC through the Cebuano Studies Center, the workshop started in 1984 has served as training ground for around 250 creative writers writing in English and Cebuano not only in Cebu but also in other Cebuano-speaking parts of the country.—Sunday, October 12, 2008, PR/WAB
